Last year I graduated from college with a degree that incorporated American Sign Language, Teaching English as a Second Language, and Sociology. And with that degree I became… a nanny. Right now I take care of two beautiful girls, one born the beginning of July, and the other the end of August. They are both blond haired, blue eyed beauties with very distinct personalities.
I go home every night tired after a 10 hour work day. I tend to smell like similac and diaper rash lotion. I dress down for my job. I get along well with both families that I work for. I’m not sure I could be happier with an “just out of school” job. It can be very stressful and I’m constantly having to adjust to new behaviors and stages of their development, but it’s so rewarding and I’m excited about the idea of being with them as they grow.
This was just supposed to be a “for a couple years to make some money before I decide what I really want to do” job. Now I’m beginning to think it might be the first step of a career in childcare. Life sure is funny that way.
